Tonight I will be speaking in Brisbane to more than 50 Barristers about how clinical psychologists can help them be in top shape so they can handle the responsibilities of their profession and also enjoy their private lives.
Barristers, the learned counsel who spend much of their time presenting complex and compelling arguments in court, are highly skilled.
But that doesn’t mean they are invulnerable to psychological challenges. In fact, the particular demands of their profession can make them more vulnerable than you might think.
I think it is a great decision of the Queensland Bar Association to provide a service to their members whereby they can select from a panel of senior clinical psychologists who have had experience assisting lawyers.
I will be speak about the current state of psychological health in the profession, common symptoms of those with some problems in this area (I have quite a few lawyers as clinical clients) , and how clinical psychologists can help.
Lawyers love ideas and I have found in previous seminars to law firms, or talks to Barristers, Solicitors and Judges that they quickly engage with the central issues.
I will let you know how it goes and tell you more about the role of clinical psychologists in future posts.
